Hyperfixations

Published on 8 September 2026 at 21:40

Over my 18 years, I’ve had many hyperfixations and autistic interests. The first one I remember was ladybirds, then unicorns, followed by my dream university—which I’m actually starting soon—then owls, and most recently, axolotls.

My mum says my love of DVDs and books counts as a hyperfixation too, but I think I might just be a nerd when it comes to those. Still, I turn into a five-year-old whenever I see an axolotl plushie, figurine, or LEGO set—and that’s okay. It’s part of the autistic mindset.

And I can’t forget the million and one arts-and-crafts projects I’ve started but never finished, which are now piled up in my wardrobe at home. That’s okay too. So, if you feel guilty for being like me, you don’t have to. It’s okay. This blog might end up being the same.
